Dreams

April 27th, 2015

What happened to your dreams? You used to bring them out, blow a little dust off them and look at them and see your future. It made you optimistic about the future and it made you happy. What happened?

People say “Oh, life got in the way” or “Reality finally set in”. Poppycock!! Your dreams are still there and they are still viable if you would be the least bit courageous and flexible.

Joe R. from Queens, New York wanted to grow up and play baseball, his first love. Joe decided at 63 that his dreams were long gone, expired, dust. With just a change in mindset of what is possible, two years later Joe moved to Florida and now “works” full time on the coaching staff for a minor league team. He says he can’t call it “work” because he’s having so much fun.

Margaret C. from Ann Arbor Michigan “knew” that her dreams were in the dustbin of the past. At 52 and single, her dreams of a partner and a place at the beach seemed light years away and not worthy of even fantasizing. With a change in mindset and action, Margaret didn’t wait for the beach and partner to come to her, she moved to the beach and found her partner.

Jackie A. didn’t have to move anywhere. Wanting so badly to be a fashion model, her dreams vanished in her tiny town far away from the runways by the time she was 24. At 29 with two small children, Jackie realized that her gift of drawing fashion designs brought her more pleasure than modeling ever could. A change in mindset and Jackie lived her dream.

Your dreams are not gone. They are a part of you and always will be. Dust them off, change any rigid ideas about their fulfillment and have the courage and flexibility to change. You are never trapped or set in your ways until you say so.

Go after your dream and every step, no matter how small, will inspire you and inspire all who know you. And if by chance you don’t believe you have a dream, today is a great day to start looking for one. There’s nothing that is beyond your ability once you change your mindset to “Yes, I can”.

The Rosebud

September 19th, 2011

A rosebud is a beautiful creation. It suddenly appears all tightly wrapped and we look at its beauty which is part rosebud and also the promise of the rose. We check day after day awaiting its arrival and if it just stays a bud, we lose interest and check only once in a while and then rarely. But no matter how long the rosebud has stayed in that state and no matter how disinterested we became, when it starts to bloom, it is day one all over again. We watch and our joy and our expectation shoots to high levels once again. We are enraptured. We tell ourselves that we always knew it was going to be a great one and we enjoy.

We are all born like the rosebud. People look at us with joy and they wait patiently for our blossoming. Years go by and soon even our most diehard fans may lose interest. But dreams like rosebuds don’t die, they wait. Sometimes the wait is long but sooner or later there is a stirring and the blossoming begins. Life, like the rose follows a heavenly clock. The time of blooming for both flower and person is set by the maker of the clock and all of nature follows.

As you walk or drive the streets today you will see buds and you will see flowers. As you look in the mirror tonight you will see part bud and part flower. Rejoice! You are in the process of blooming. It doesn’t matter how long it took or when it started. Look at yourself from now on with great expectation. Look at yourself and know that your time has come. The rose needs neither permission nor applause to blossom and neither do you. Go ahead and give energy to that stirring within you. Soon, everyone will say that they knew you were going to be great. Smile and enjoy.

Live a bigger life

May 3rd, 2010

If you are old enough to read this, you have probably failed more times than you can remember. You’ve made humbling mistakes both large and small. You’ve searched for and probably found a place, a level where chances of failing or making another mistake are now minimized and you reside there. The only problem with this is that it sucks!
Your life was never meant to be entirely predictable. You were not blessed with your reflexes and your accumulated knowledge and your experiences so that you could hide from life. It’s time to live bigger! It’s time to expand. There’s been enough contracting in your life. This is all about you. No one else has to change. This is about you saying YES! to life. This is about you dreaming again.
Grab some paper and a pen and write down some dreams. If you don’t have any, make them up. The bigger the better. Make them wilder and more outlandish than they have ever been. Put it all in there. After an hour or two on that piece of paper there will be a key that opens up the door to your bigger life. Will there be more failures and mistakes? You betcha! But there will also be thrills and celebrations and that amazing feeling that you are alive and anything is possible. Start thinking possibilities. Go have some fun! If you’ve lost the map to fun just do something in a different way and fun will show up. You know that you are ready.
