Twenty Four Hours

May 21st, 2018

“C’mon, you haven’t got all day!”. Actually you and I do have all day every day. The only two partial days we will spend on this earth are the day we are born and the day we die. Other than those two days we will have thousands of twenty four hour days.

We all have the same twenty four hours each day that Galileo had and Einstein had and Buddha had. In fact all of the billions of people that have ever lived on this planet had twenty four hours each day to create, to enjoy, to invent, to write, to compose and to partake of all that life has to offer.

Most of us have time saving appliances and access to transportation so that we are able to utilize more of our twenty four hours than ever before. We don’t need to walk miles and hours for fresh water or firewood each day. It doesn’t take us months to travel long distances. In other words, we have some time to do stuff and not to merely survive.

This all begs the question of What Are We Doing With Our Twenty Four Hours? It’s funny, we can find an hour for Facebook but not fifteen minutes for meditation. We can watch hours of people flipping houses or competing to make food or solving fictional murders and have absolutely nothing accomplished ourselves. We have become spectators. We are sitting in the bleachers of life watching a few people do something.

It’s time! It’s time to stop watching this world and to start participating in it. Yes, we each have thousands of twenty four hour days but those days are not unlimited. You and I may live well into our nineties but we won’t be climbing mountains and we won’t be dancing until dawn.

Right now is the best, most advantageous time of our lives. We can do stuff! We can create, enjoy, invent, write, compose and partake of all that life has to offer.

Dust off those dreams, plan that getaway, get a map of that mountain to climb, sew a quilt, sculpt, work out, learn a few phrases of another language, take a class, feed the poor, dance until dawn or a least until midnight.

Close the laptop, turn off the TV, put down your phone and suddenly you will feel very uncomfortable. You will actually feel a little irritated and very soon you will want to do something, anything. That my dear friend is life pushing you out of the bleachers and onto the field of life. Enjoy!
