The rest of your life

August 30th, 2010

I stood by my Father’s bedside as he passed away last week. He had Alzheimer’s and a broken heart from the recent death of my Mother. As I watched his passing I realized that there is some date in the future that has my death notice on it. Maybe it is already written. Maybe it is still to be decided but no matter which, there is a date in the future that each one of us will pass from this physical life. Ask yourself; What am I going to do between now and then? Is what I have done so far enough for people to say that I really lived? Is what I have done up until this moment a legacy that will inspire others? Will anyone say that I made a difference? Could I have done more?
Life can change quickly. Right this minute, the ERs of this country are filled with people who had other plans for this day. The rest of your life, although of indeterminate length, is in front of you like wet clay waiting to be sculpted. Are you going to create another yesterday or the tomorrow you always wanted? You wanted to make a change…write it down. You wanted more love …love others more. You wanted more fun …go get it. You wanted more courage …believe in yourself. You wanted someone to always be there for you …find your faith. Love more, worry less. Care more, gossip less. Help more, criticize less. Dream more, regret less. Choose happiness for yourself and others. Do these and you will have really lived.

The Door

August 16th, 2010

There is a door up ahead. Behind that door is everything you ever prayed for, wished or wanted. It’s a plain looking door and all you have to do is keep right on walking until you get to it and like one of those super market doors, it will just swing wide open for you as soon as you get close enough. So why all the anxiety and worry about things not working out? It is because between you and that plain looking door, there are other doors on the sides. They are beautiful ornate doors with gorgeous entrances but behind each door is a very small room filled with promises and IOU’s. That’s it, nothing but promises and IOU’s. So why don’t we just leave those little rooms and continue towards the plain door at the end? Because we are dazzled by what glitters. We believe the promises and the IOU’s because there just has to be something of worth behind such a beautiful door and so we stay in the little room waiting for the promises to come true and the IOU’s to be redeemed.
If you find yourself with a bunch of empty promises and nonredeemable IOU’s, it’s time to make a change. You know where you were going before you got side tracked. You know the way back to the truth, your truth. You know that you really can have it all and not settle for empty promises. No one is stopping you . Make the change. It’s time and you know it.

Harvest

August 9th, 2010

Keep saying carrots, carrots, carrots and surround yourself with pictures of carrots and paint every room in your house carrot orange but actually plant watermelons and guess what? You’re going to harvest watermelons!!
No matter what you are saying or wishing for, what you are DOING is what gives you the results. You can want all to be well in your life but if you constantly entertain thoughts of doom and gloom, that’s what you are planting. You can want your children to abide by higher standards but if you do not, that’s what you are planting. You can want to boldly go into the future but if you are stuck in the past, that’s what you are planting.
Every moment of your life you are harvesting what you have planted and planting the new seeds that you are creating. Take a long, honest look at where you are in several areas of your life. Do you like the harvest? If you do, keep planting the same seeds but if you don’t like the harvest, get some new seeds. They won’t sprout right away. Don’t be discouraged if nothing changes for a little while. You’ll still be harvesting the old plantings. Have discipline, faith and patience and keep planting the new seeds and soon what you want and what you harvest will be identical.

Hope or quit

August 2nd, 2010

At what number do you quit? You’ve tried and tried but you haven’t seen the results. You’ve prayed for something over and over but so far nada, nothing, zilch. At what number do you quit? You’ve tried to lose weight, quit an addiction, turn your life around but you haven’t made any meaningful progress. At what number do you quit? You’ve tried to get a job, get a relationship, get recognition but so far nothing. At what number do you quit?
There is a finite time between this moment and the moment that you will take your last breath in this body. In that time there will be chances to try and chances to quit. At what number do you quit? You don’t have to know that number because as soon as you give up hope, you quit. You see, if your hope is gone after the first try or the hundredth try, that’s when you effectively quit. It doesn’t matter if you keep trying , it’s over.
If you feel any hope whatsoever, than try, try with all of your heart and soul until the hope disappears or you have the results you are after. Some roads end and it is foolish to continue and some roads you have to wait until what you perceive is the end to see that it turns and continues. Check your trying for hope. If it’s there keep going. If it’s not, quit that and try something hopeful.
